Asian Paints WoodTech Aquadur PU Barrier Coat is a universal undercoat for interior and exterior woods where Aquadur Water Based PU Top coat has to be applied over previously applied solvent base wood coatings. It is an ideal undercoat for Aquadur in cases where wood has already been coated wiith PU, Melamine and other sovlent based wood coatings. It is easy to apply and gives a sound surface for adhesion of Aquadur Water Based PU.

Application

Materials Required

• Random Orbital Sander 5"
• Random Orbital Sander 6"
• Velcro Discs for Orbital Sanders 5"- Open coated type - Grits 120, 150, 180, 220 
• Velcro Discs for Orbital Sanders 6"- Open coated type - Grits 120, 150, 180, 220
• Sheets for Hand Sanding - Open coated type - Grits 120, 150, 180, 220
• Scotch Brite Hand Pads or Steel Wool.
• Brush 2", 3"
• Felt Roller 4"
• Putty Knives 2", 3", 4"
• Dent Filler
• Wood Filler
• Water Based Polyurethane Base Coat 
• Water Based Polyurethane Top Coat - Matt (This Product)
• Water Based Polyurethane Top Coat - Glossy
• Clean potable water.

Application

• Sand the previously applied coating with papers of grit 320 or 400. An orbital sanding machine can also be used with the same grits.
• For woods with carving or grooves, Scotch Brite Handpads or Steel Wool must be used for sanding.
• Wipe all the sanding dust clean using a takrag. Product link to Takrags.  
• Using a dent filler, fill major dents and imperfections using a putty knife.
• Match faded areas using a wood stain. Product link to Wood Stains.
• Barrier Coat is a ready to use product, no dilution is required.
• Dip a cotton cloth in the Barrier Coat material and squeeze gently. Rag the cotton cloth from left to right and then right to left. This makes 1 pass. Repeat for 2-3 passes. Cover the entire area.
• Carry out the same process after 45mins - 60mins for a second coat. Slight streaking might be visible, which will dry out over time.
• Allow for complete drying of the Barrier Coat for 4-5 hours. 
• Sand lightly using emery grit 400.
• Wipe off and apply Aquadur PU as per product application instructions.
• Application of Aquadur Sealer is not required after the application of Barrier Coat.

• Application of Aquadur PU on previously coated woods. 
• For Green Building.
• Projects that require fast turnarounds.
• Can be used where spraying is impractical or impossible such as windows which require scaffolding to reach.

Precautions

• Apply maximum of 3 coats of Barrier Coat.
• Avoid heavy deposition of Barrier Coat on the surface.
